Parent Involvement

If you wish to get involved with Kingston Lakers Basketball as a coach in our Grassroots, Sr. Girls or Sr. Boys leagues, please reach out to Paul at [email protected].

Dear Parents,

As key supporters of our young athletes, your role in their development and enjoyment of basketball is crucial. We want to ensure a positive, respectful, and encouraging environment for all participants. Here are some guidelines and reminders to help us achieve this:

  1. Be a Role Model: Demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for everyone involved – players, coaches, referees, and other spectators. Your behaviour sets an example for the children.

  2. Encourage, Don’t Pressure: Support your child and their teammates with positive reinforcement. Avoid putting undue pressure on them to perform or win. Remember, the goal is to have fun, learn, and develop skills.

  3. Respect the Coaches and Officials: Trust that coaches and officials are doing their best for the team and the game. Avoid questioning their decisions or authority during games. If you have concerns, address them calmly and respectfully at an appropriate time to one of the Kingston Lakers Basketball Staff members.

  4. Focus on Effort and Improvement: Celebrate effort, teamwork, and personal improvement over winning. Encourage your child to strive for their personal best and to appreciate the growth and development that comes from practice and perseverance.

  5. Promote Team Spirit: Foster a sense of community and teamwork. Support all players, not just your own child. Cheer for good plays, fair competition, and sportsmanship from both teams.

  6. Stay Positive: Maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of disappointment or frustration. Help your child learn from losses and setbacks and understand that these are opportunities for growth and learning.

  7. Create a Supportive Atmosphere: Help make the basketball experience enjoyable for everyone by keeping sideline conversations and behavior positive and supportive. Avoid negative comments or criticism.

By following these guidelines, we can create a positive and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and social development of our young athletes. Thank you for your cooperation and support in making our basketball league a great experience for all.

Sincerely,

Paul Pennell
President
